As a young girl, I found out that I was a foster kid. My family was my family, but someone else took care of my needs. He was my father in all aspects. He treated me as if I was his real daughter. On our way out of town one day, he turned on the radio, and Control by Janet Jackson was on. As I was too young to understand the words, he explained that one day I would have to take control of my life and not expect others to give me handouts.
His words rang true because when I was just 17 years old, he passed away and I was left alone and with no one to lead me in the right direction, As I was sitting at home, Control came on again and my father’s words began to circle around in my head. I was now alone and needed to take control over my life. Throughout the next few years, Control was my anthem in more ways than one. It motivated me to be an independent person. It motivated me to stay true to myself.
While most people like Janet’s style, her music etc, I love her because she has an ability to write music, not only for entertainment but to give us a new way to experience different issues in life. She gives a voice to the voiceless. Janet inspires us all to be beautiful individuals who feel good about ourselves and to indulge in the trueness of ourselves.
